    Root URL vs. /Forums

When I created my first forum I inadvertently created a splash page with the thought that I would later convert it over to a full web page. Well I haven't done that, and I'm working on other projects at the moment.

What I'd like to know is how badly do you think I'm losing out by having the splash page? My Google Analytics shows a 80%+ bounce rate at the splash page, but I'm not quite sure how to read that (are they going to /forums, or are they leaving all together).

I've had co-workers go to the site, some of whom aren't very computer literate, and they have no issues navigating the splash page into the forum without me telling them anything.

My new forum doesn't have the splash page.

I'd lose the splash and just send a 301 to the forums page right away.

Ninja response... maybe I should just start PMing you. You always answer my questions.

Now, in terms of creating the 301. What do I need to do in order to avoid breaking links? I'm a bit worried about the entire process since I'm not keen on how to write server side commands.

    Shake n' Bake.

    in root,
place this in an htaccess file:

    Code:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.domain.com/forums/$1 [L,R=301]
shouldn't break any links, other than to you main .com... which will simply get sent to the forums instead.

and no, don't PM me. I will only tell you to make a post 4in the forums.
Why? because this post may benefit someone else later with the same question via a search. PM's don't get indexed.

how did you manage to get adsense on there? last i knew adsense disallowed firearm sites.

Site Content While Google offers....... include:

    • Sales or promotion of weapons or ammunition (e.g., firearms, fighting knives, stun guns)

I dunno. I applied, and on the forum it went?

They have a bunch of advertisers that are selling firearms training, gun safes, etc.

    I just removed it.

I'm really sick and tired of spineless companies, and people, that can't deal with firearms.

It's so taboo and dark to act on rights enumerated by our Constitution.

    I hear ya.

I just don't want you to rack up some money, then have google pull your account and you never get paid.

    Theft, yeah.

I had $12 in there. It sucks because I had just started to see a couple bucks a day, which would have been nice for my small site. (use it towards advertising / promotion)

I'm going to make it a point to email every one of the advertisers selling gun related items to pull their ads. I already called one and they are looking into it. They are located in Houston, TX.
