Possible to know the actual PR ?

    Hello,

I heard about the fact that there is a difference between the actual PR and the PR that tools provide in websites such as pageranke.com or prcheker.info. i would like to know if there's any tool or a website where I can know the Actual Page rank of my website. Other question: The actual PR is higher or lower than the theorical PR ?

    Thank you

When people speak about PageRank, they typically refer to the "green" bar visible in Google's browser toolbar, ranking on a scale of 0 to 10.

When we refer to "actual PageRank" this is saying that the toolbar itself is not a highly accurate indicator of how well a site is going to rank. We acknowledge that Google has something slightly different under the hood.

Keep in mind that each of your page's will rank *differently* for *different* keywords (of course). That toolbar PageRank you see, does not provide any indication of how well you'll rank for any particular keyword.

Within Google's actual databases, each of your pages is stored and does have some form of numerical PageRank calculated value. This is quite likely to differ from the toolbar pagerank, largely in that it does not have to be 0,1,2,3,... 10. It can likely be any decimal value, and is probably on a different scale such as 0 to 1. Imagine a PageRank of 0.237352370872353 instead.

All that is mostly mumbo jumbo, not that vitally important to understand. The reason is that PageRank itself, while at the core of Google's original algorithm, only works in combination with many other factors. And we don't have a view into Google's database or algorithm to figure out what exactly these factors are, or what our current values are. They must keep us in the dark in order to keep Google's search results from being unfairly manipulated.

While it is generally nice to see the green toolbar PR grow, I like to steer people away from the somewhat misleading PageRank term, and think more about actual "link value". Here is an entry you may be interested in checking out:
