New Member, Adwords, and Adsense Tracking

    Hello,

I have google analytics and updated my vBSEO with my analytics account number.

Can I get a little help locating a guide for tracking new member registrations?

I'd like to know both where they are coming from, and the cost for the members that found me through my google adwords campaign. If possible I'd like to know the specific adwords ads and even keyword they searched for so I know which money that I'm spending is going to waste.

Is it also possible to track adwords clicks into my site the generated a visitor who clicked my adsense so I don't accidentally nix adwords that are generating money instead of new members?

I prefer the new members, but am happy with either result.

For tracking registrations, you should enable the funnel as outlined here:
[HOW-TO] Setting up vBSEO's Registration Funnel in Google Analytics

The adwords stuff, i'm not sure. You might need to add in the manual conversion javascript to the register complete template This is not built into vbseo.

Not too many people advertise their forums (or anything for that matter that isn't a 'sellable product').

Eventually, you will end up with your ad above your site showing as serp #1. Why pay for it?

    I'll take a look, thanks.

I'm eating about a 50% loss on the adwords right now. I pick a specialty such as hotmail help or yahoo help and run with it until either a measurable amount of organic visitors are hitting that forum, or until i see myself on the first page for the keywords. When the results are there, for example "email question" I stop prompting it with adwords and move on to something else.

It makes more sense to me than any of that automated posting crap, and is growing my forum crazy faster than when it was just sitting there getting a handful of visitors per day. I've been using adwords for about 6 weeks now and I've doubled in size again in the past 2 weeks. (100 new members). I am generating real members posting real questions. Visitors in the future can benefit from many of the discussions. I'm already seeing other sites linking to EQ as a resource. It seems to be working in my case so I'm happy with it.

I have no idea what percentage of the adsense revenue is coming from the adwords clicks that I am paying for. I'm hoping the google analytics book will help me solve that problem. Anyway, I ordered and have the google analytics book from Amazon on the way. For anyone who is already using adwords the $20 google analytics book that comes with a $25 adwords coupon. If you already use adwords you make $5, and if you don't use adwords already you get a free $25 to experiment with adwords (consider running adwords for your forum at $1/day for a month) on top of getting the analytics book.
