Question Is my domain name too long?

    http://www.politicsforumpoliticalworld .com

Do you think it could be punished by search engines for being too long? What if I use VBSEO? Do you think that could get a penalty for the site?

    Thank you for comments.

The length of it would not have any SEO impact. Aesthetically or for general marketing considerations shorter and more concise might be preferred.

Hey again. Thanks for your advice. It is much appreciated. I was just wondering, do you think Google might penalize these URLs for having too many keywords? They are two of the subdirectories on my forum

    Root:

    ww.politicsforumpoliticalworld.com/

"US Politics" Forum on the forums page:

    ww.politicsforumpoliticalworld.com/forum/us-politics/

"World Politics" Forum on the forums page:

    ww.politicsforumpoliticalworld.com/forum/world-politics/

(one "w" taken out of www to display the entire URL)

While it "probably" wont hurt you in terms of SEO, I think it is entirely too long. It is good to have a keyword in the domain name, but I don't think it helps at all outside of that.

I have completely taken the keywords out of my forum directories, and thread titles and have actually had better luck then with them. Not to mention, the URL is about 1/3 the size, or even shorter.

I mean Honestly, this looks like overkill to me:
    Code:
    http://www.politicsforumpoliticalworld.com/forum/member-written-articles-essays-op-eds/1412-will-turkey-learn-tragic-assassination-hrant-dink.html
    I would much more prefer:
    Code:
    http://www.politicsforumpoliticalworld.com/t1412/
Especially since you have that enormous size domain name. If it were me, and that site was new, I would seriously consider looking for a much shorter domain name using either politics or political. Just one of them.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I have read that too many keywords in a URL is a red flag to Google that the site may be spam.

I don't believe long url's are a problem for SEO, nothing points to that. Google or any other SE don't care for the length , they care for the URL structure (dynamic<static) and the content. However, you have to think of a name that people can remember, not something that is better for ranking imo. Keywords in domain names aren't even that important. Title, other on page seo and links to your site is what really matters.

the best sites don't have names that all reflect at all what they are.

google - a number. has nothing to do with search engines
flickr - has nothing to do with photo hosting
del.icio.us - has nothing to do with social bookmarks
daniweb - has nothing to do with computers/programming
