Moving my forum from root to /forum/

I'm planning on moving my forum from the root to /forum/ and not sure how to go about moving everything, and don't know how to use 301 redirects to make it that way.

I've still got to create the homepage (probably a wordpress blog for news) but I just would like to know what is involved, and how hard it is.

Where would i start on this?

You should start by closing your forums while you move everything.

Create the /forums/ on your FTP
Login to your AdminCP and change all your path settings at once.
Move all the forum files into the /forums/ folder
Turn forums back on
Create the .htaccess to instruct spiders (and visitors) you've moved your forums, and so it redirects them all there

Then just install wordpress in your / folder
