so does anyone personally know a website that has used something like this and received decent results. I mean something that wouldn't ordinarily happen on its own organically?

At one point we considered adding it to vBSEO, it would have been called "RefTagging". Later on we determined it could potentially be identifiable by Google, especially if implemented on thousands of forums simultaneously.

So a lot of people have asked that, and Im really looking at sticking them in that table as an option... might get something out over the weekend that works this way instead. Then work on that logic afterwards.

scares the hell out of me.

It sounds like google told them they were going to drop them from the index if they didn't stop using this method, or something of the sort.

I wouldn't use this as an article in your mod's favor. Sure, it saw the traffic drop, but if the long term = drop from index, you can keep the short term gains IMO.

This plugin merely improves your position for what people are ACTUALLY searching for by detecting that information.

again, fair point - BUT....

...Scribd is a bit more "high visibility" than 99.9999% of forums that this could be installed on, so less of an issue.

I linked to the article, and to the discussion about it in seoMoz because I feel that everyone should be aware of what they are doing, and can make their own decisions.

for me at least, its the right decision, thats why I implemented it.

Im also search marketing manager for Europe's largest ticket marketplace, so its not like Im new to the whole concept of seo

I'd advise that no one installs the latest version of this, after i installed it my forums are down and i can't even access the admincp

On every page i try to access, i know it's not a conflict with vbseo because i can still access the vbseocp by going directly to forums/vbseocp.php and i've tried turning vbseo off and i get the same errors,

i can;t do anything now

It maybe conflicting with another plugin, but nothing i can do if i can't access admincp...... my forum was working fine until the second i imported the product file for the new version he uploaded

Just cool down a little and don't do anything to your forum yet until you get some feedback from members here or from the author.

You still can access your forum through FTP, can't you?

tried to disable plugin system via includes/config.php ?

Correct, try adding

Code:

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

to the top of includes.config.php on the line after <?php

That should turn off all mods, and then you can enter plugin system and disable the product.
