I am ditching VBCMS - what do you say?

    HI

Its been more than a year, I have tried lots of SEO stuff, lots of research and content generation but vbmcs posts and articles, all are useless as compared to even posts.

Its just bad experience for me VBulletin.. only good thing about it vbulletin is vBSEO, though my migration experience was not good .. i have duplicated content and page not found issue which I have to compromised with.

Reason to switch to vbulletin was vbseo only .. it was doing all I had to do manually with other softwares I used earlier.

Now I have no idea how to replace vBCMS with WP or Drupal as I can't just remove CMS altogether, it has lots of hard work associated with as articles etc.

As VB is situated in root of my site, I have to either install WP/Drupal in a folder and and then redirect home page request to it and replace all home page request. Then I will have to customize them as per my need and match them with looks of forum or change looks of forum as per my new design or create or choose for wp .

Atleast this way I my articles, content will get good exposure !

A year ago I REALLY wanted a fully-integrated blog and forum. I thought it would make the community stronger.

    MISTAKE! I miss Wordpress BAD.

Setting up vbcms was a nightmare. They are clearly not starting with the latest version of Wordpress and saying, "This is where the world is at. How can we make it better?" Instead, they are taking the approach some kid might and say, "Well guys, I made my own blog." You respond, "That's nice kid but it's BARELY usable and you are trying to reinvent the wheel."

In terms of the technical side, writing an article script is something any guy with a year of php experience and some free time can do. It's obvious that whoever is at the top of this company is squeezing them dry and making two talented developers do the work of 10 guys.

    vBCMS took forever to setup.
Basic things in Wordpress like a static page are a nightmare.
Traffic is STILL way down Because of that....
My community stats are at an all-time low

Worst off, I've not seen much of a benefit from the community integration. We do get user blogs written from time to time, but it's not the plethora of content I was hoping for.

I'm pretty sure Cher sang a song about switching from Wordpress to VbCMS.

On vb.com we have many pages long discussion on it under license customer feedback section. My site is almost a year back in terms of progress. If I had not used VBcms, would be earning double of what I am doing now. Clearly its a mess.

Why is this useless, we are just planning to launch 3 new portals using vbulletin cms..
CMS shall play an active/important role.. should we not consider using the vbulletin cms ?

please let us know why, so we dont waste our years of hard work..

    Thanks in advance.

I have nothing person against it, but as you have asked..

    a. Its not very efficient
    b. Not very good if you want to customize looks / layout
    c. IMP: Search engines do not give it required value .. may be bcz of poor code to content ratio / duplicate entry but in tests it ruined my very good articles / posts.

Also, see licensed customer feedback section on vbulletin forums and you will be able to take decision on your own.

    See my post above.

Once upon a time, vBulletin was rather innovative in their designs. They were the top dog in forums for a while because of it. With their CMS, they clearly started from scratch and ignored all the progress that had occurred after a decade of refinement at Wordpress.

Most importantly, they are content with coding that creates obvious search engine ranking problems and seem to have no interest in fixing them. vbseo helps, but it can't overcome inherent flaws in the cms code. This is a huge problem. I have a 6 year old community that does well in Google, but my articles still don't rank as well as they did when I had Wordpress.

For the cms, Wordpress is the way to go in my experience. The vBulletin forum setup with vbseo is pretty solid although I wouldn't be surprised if there was something better by now.
