How to Manage a very big forum? Hi, I'm running a discussion with more than 2000+ forums inside that. URL: http://jobsin.build-reciprocal-links.com/ Most of them are displayed on the homepage of the forum. The problem is that homepage is getting very slower in loading. Any one have idea that what is required to speed up forum homepage display? Should I use any CMS? Any layout suggestions that list only countrys? Any idea would be greatly appreciated. Jilesh

This is just a guess i'm making but seem's the slow loading homepage is cause you have a lot of boards that have to load when going to the homepage. Anyway you could combine some boards together, make sub-boards.

That will change the URL of the existing pages. So, pages will be dropped from indexing in google. Any other suggestions?

i'd do what vb.org does... make a couple categories of homepages.

The forums are very empty. Just have country forums rather than individual cities.

User subforums and get rid of maaaany forums. It isn't just about speed, but usability. Very unpersonal and very confusing.

wow, i didn't even click the link... that's absurd. IMO, for a site like this, forumhome.php is absolutely useless. I would suggest making your own index page... call it forum.php for example, and then set vB to use this page as your home page. On this page, i'd put a map of the world with hot spots or something as basic as Select Country/Region which lists your parent categories (a simply select statement) Code: SELECT `forumid`, `title_clean` FROM `forum` where parentid = -1 and simply links to forumdisplay.php?f=$forumid

Hi, All he ideas very excellent and the one with world map was really very good. Thanks for suggestions. I will try to change the index page to show only main categories. That will resolve the issue. I will also monitor if does it impact any search engine listings.
