Question How to get Google to ignore vB and vBSEO words found on posts?

Hi analytics is still reporting the top words found on my site as:

    1. post 2. credit 3. card 4. cards 5. bookmark 6. posts 7. digg 8. thread 9. del 10. furl 11. icio 12. technorati 13. location

As we see there are a lot of vBulletin and vBSEO words in there like "post," "technorati" etc. Since those are shown on every post I know it's a no brainer why those are showing up as the top words, but how can I make google ignore these unrelated words?

    Thanks

I'm plagued with this issue too. I've yet to find a good way around it.

I think google is smart enough to know that these are common words.

You can limit the social text by using it for threads only instead of per post via the option, but you'll just get other top words in there like 'view profile', etc.

I thought of a way vBSEO might be able to fix this. What if they replaced links for those words as GIF graphic links instead? i.e. instead of saying technorati it just showed an image for it? Wouldn't this work?

    yes and no...

because technically, you should still have ALT text on the image, which thus will still leave you with a ton of instancaces of that text on the page :X

But wouldn't it be good to give us the option of skipping alt text and replacing with images maybe as a new feature? From what I understand now is that alt text doesn't matter unless you are specifically targeting a specific image for search.

the alt text goes on the image, and it's a w3 error to NOT have alt text, and it's an accessibility error to have alt="" (empty).

So, either way, someone gets screwed. lol

I still think it's best to leave it alone. Google sees this all the time.

you'd think you'd rank #1 for 'post' with all those in there... but i bet you're not even on the first 10 pages.
