How do you block Forum Spam?

Howdy gang. Long time no see. I gave up on VB last year after my small forum was inundated with %#@$% spam. There was no way to stop it and it became a full time job.

I'm thinking of setting up another board but wonder if VB has done anything with plugins or the like to stop it.

How do YOU combat spam? Any special settings or plugins?

    THANK YOU!

We use a spam plugin available at vbulletin.org that is very effective. When you click the button to eliminate a particular spam post it automatically identifies other related accounts and spam posts, and removes them all at the same time, including email notification and auto-banning for the user all at the same time.

I used to get loads of SPAM posts a day until I used a mod by SirAdrian - but it still let quite a bit of spam through, so I re-wrote it and now it blocks 99% of URL spam and sends 100% of keyword spam to the moderation queue (without affecting regular members).

I've attached it; might help you out if you're not planning on using 3.7 yet.

check the two Prevent Spam Posts - Page 5 - vBulletin.org Forum they are completely different apart from the stripos function *which is fairly universal) - I've only ever used it personally (just thought it might have helped him out) I did credit SirAdrian for giving me a start off point but the 2 mods work differently.

The guy asked for some help... I gave him some (it's nice to be nice). Isn't that what this forum is for?

I have a lot of spam as well especially with my niche it's prone to counterfeiters trying to sell their products. Good Moderators with one touch clean up spam and ban works great for us.
It may be best to not listen to anything I say for advice. :spin:

I'm not big league so I don't have moderators (just lil ol' me). I have tried human verification but that turns off people who want to participate right away. I've tried captch stuff but bots can read those things better than I can!

On my Wordpress blogs I have a simple math problem plugin ("What is 5+10?") or a text question ("What is the last word in this blog's title?").

Class101... is that built in to VB now or a plugin? If a plugin, which ones?

In 3.7 human verification questions are builtin yes they included it, you setup any number of questions/answers, if you are still running 3.6.8 then the equivalent plugin is called NoSpam, it works exactly like human verification question bultin 3.7, you setup questions like mines for example: what is the #1 search engine, write the 5 last letters of the word security, they are very basic questions that everyone knows but bots won't. Questions to forget are what does 1+1 etc , they are cracked by bots, btw yours in wordpress what is 5+10 is to remove , its so easly cracked, a bot isn't that stupid about math, they are probably better than us to calculate anything.
