Google spider parked in attachments for 24+ hours

I have had a Google spider viewing attachments for at least the last 24 hours. Who's Online shows that it is viewing the "no permission message" but I'm not sure why.

It has been the same IP, and the attachment ID keeps changing, so the spider is going through them.

is this normal? I've never seen a spider park itself like this and I'm not sure if it's actually even able to do anything positive with all of the attachments...

Are your attachments viewable by guest users? That's the only thing that would prompt the bot to see the stop sign.

There's really nothing you can do to control where/what/or how long a bot does anything.

    thanks for the reply Brian.

the only setting I found regarding unregistered users & attachments was "Can Download Attachments" which was set to "No." I changed it to "yes" considering how interested these bots seem to be. can this give any SEO benefit?

I know you can't really control bots, I was just really surprised it parked itself, going through all of the attachments. in fact, it's still there now!

Yes, that is the setting you want.... the term 'download' is a bit misleading in regards to images. it is for viewing as well.

Google images is a big traffic referrer for me, so i would say that yes there is an seo benefit to having your attachments and images available.
