Google index announcements, good or bad?

I have a lot of forums and I have a single announcement going across all of them. Google crawls the announcements a lot and has indexed many of them. I'm wondering if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Is it a bad thing because of duplicate content? I have a robots.txt that disallows announcement.php but it still crawls it and indexes the pages. Is it having a positive or negative affect on my page and search rank to have google crawling and indexing announcements? If it's negative how do i tell google to ignore announcements, because robots.txt doesn't get the job done.

If you enabled Announcement rewrites then blocking announcement.php will not work. If you don't want your announcements indexed , you can disable Announcement rewrites so the block within robots.txt can work.

Alright thanks. But i'm still curious as to whether or not allowing google to index my announcements is a good or bad thing? It crawls announcement far more than forumdisplay, and indexes more announcements than forums. Will google see the announcement as duplicate content and punish me for it?

I personally don't allow SE's indexing my announcements as they are mainly targetted within the boards and will not give any positive effect . I always prefer to keep SE's attention on threads
