Google Checkout has been Launched - A New Web Payment Option to Rival PayPal

Google has launched a new web payment option with some very interesting new features:
  • Google Checkout is very similar to the PayPal model, but (so far) focused on merchant processing, not customer to customer transfers.
  • AdWords advertisers who offer Google Checkout to their customers will have a shopping cart icon in their AdWords.
  • NOTE: AdWords advertisers get a 10x credit on their AdWord spending. The credit offsets payment processing fees.
Because of the Adwords incentive, expect Google Checkout to very rapidly become a big player in online purchase transactions.

Notes on vBSEO
  • Crawlability Inc. is investigating Google Checkout as an additional option for our current checkout, including PayPal and 2CheckOut.

  • Will you provide Google Checkout as an option for customer purchasing on your website?
  • Do you think the Google Checkout icon that will be added to AdWord ads, will have a positive impact on clickthrough rates?
  • Do you think Google Checkout can steal market share from PayPal?
  • Did you know that eBay has banned Google Checkout as a payment option?
  • Would you consider dropping PayPal in order to maximize your AdWord's credits?
