We just completed our move from HG to ServInt. Moving from Shared hosting to VPS killed our load time.

For the ServInt users out there, what plan did you get?

We average about 100 users at a time, 200-300 new posts a day.
    Any recommendations?

Just did this 2 nights ago. We average 200-300 new THREADS each day and have about 250 on at once. Go into your cPanel and make sure none of your email accounts are getting the error messages emailed to them. Our server loads hit over 70 and dropped down to about 2 after stopping that and a few other minor things in vb.

I am with HostGator right now spending $219+$50 for extra ram of the Standard Dedicated server listed here: Dedicated Servers - Dedicated Web Hosting with Linux or FreeBSD -

    My forum gets the following:

    200+ posts a day
    125+ users online at once
    17,888 monthly uniques

Should I stay with them or move to another hosting company? Not looking to spend anywhere really over 200-250/month.

*Just a note, I dont have my *dedicated server* knowledge.

That is to much for that traffic. You can easly go with VPS or even with shared hosting for few $ per month. I am paying less than you for dedicated and I have uniques in one day as much as you have in one month.

Dreamhost any good? I've got EVERYTHING with them, and have been with them for many years. I'm currently using the VPS service, and I'm told my site loads too slow.

    :(

I owned 5 Forums and I have moved all my 5 forums to Servint from a popular shared hosting.

I have to admit that I have zero knowledge when it comes to managing my own server but Servint has brought me to a comfortable level by supporting me even for simplest request. That is part of the reason why after buying 1 VPS from them , I have recently bought a second VPS from them for the rest of my sites.

I will strongly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a VPS.

No the list of people online, does that apply to visitors as well or just registered users? Since I added VBSEO I'm getting over 500 to 800 visitors a day now and my site isn't even fully indexed, now banned by hostgator for the vbseo.php file. njstangers.org

I can't have this especially since my forum members live on there and we have a show next weekend!

    Small sites
1-75 posts a day, never/rarely more than 25 online with default cookie timeout.
    Shared hosting.
    I recommend:

    Medium sites
75-350 posts a day, 25-100 online at once with default cookie
    VPS hosting.
    I recommend:

    Large Sites

351-1000 posts a day, 101-400 online at once
Dedicated server (obviosuly, these can vary DRASTICALLY. use as a guide only)
    I recommend:

Note: Softlayer, and many other dedicated providers are UNMANAGED. If you are not comfortable getting around a linux box, SSH, etc there are 3rd party providers who can help on a monthly recurring basis and/or 1-time ticket basis.
    I recommend:

I've been happy with Hawkhost, my website loads 50% faster.
A nice thing they have is Litespeed which is way faster than Apache.
All my forum members were just impressed how good they are.
Everyone that runs a large forum should look into Litespeed.

I run vBSEO, vBulletin 4.1.5 pl and several plugins.
I also use flash on my website so its very important that everything loads very fast!
Their control panel is the latest and its great. They use cPanel.

I've went through countless amount of companies to find the right place and I finally found it in HawkHost.
My old web host with the same settings would load the page 10-12 seconds and they would tell me thats normal for my website to load 10-12 seconds.
When I test load speed on http://tools.pingdom.com/ the difference is night and day, 3.3 seconds.
    Their support is stellar too.
My website is growing daily so I might give their VPS a try.
I am just a happy customer and I couldn't be happier that vBSEO runs so smooth without a hiccup.

Thanks that's very interesting to know, your only on a shared with the vbseo plugin? I had to get a VPS Hostgator which I currently run
    Total loading time:4.7 seconds

and I bought the package from Servint on sunday for VPS to change since hostgator was giving me issues and still not sure yet when I'll hear back or if I should just try yours.

You should give them a try, I am happy on a shared plan, plus I have a coupon to get 50% off on first payment if you want to go with them.
I paid 12 months in advance and only paid around 30 dollars. They do daily backups and it's free.
Customer service is second to none. This guys know what it takes to run an actual vbulletin, ipb or xenforo forums.
Their cPanel is loaded with bunch of good stuff compared to other hosting companies.
See my link above if you want to give them a try.
They have datacenters all over the place.
