Question [forum_id] in URL formats - does this change the URL?

Regarding [forum_id] in URL formats does this change the URL in the browser? Do I need redirects? I want to optimize, but this bit is a little unclear. Thanks in advance..

    forum_id] in URL formats

If your CRU format includes only [forum_title], 1 additional database query will be executed. To eliminate this query, simply be sure to include [forum_id] in the CRU format.

I'm not sure what you are asking. Please re-phrase or describe your problem in more detail.

Sorry I'm just confused - I want to get rid of the additional DB query as mentioned in this tip, but for starters, in Define Forum Path Title Bits - I have [forum_title] selected. Are you saying to change this to [forum_id] ?

Yes, or add in [forum_id] as in /[forum_title]-[forum_id]/

and this will break all your forum urls, so you need to manually redirect them as per:

    Yikes.
Will a redirect negate any performance gain?

Long term, no, short term, yes. Forum pages are certainly lesser viewed pages than threads themselves, so the performance implications or gain is fairly limited.

So this only applies to forum index pages and not thread URLs?

Yes, as thread urls already require the ID in them.
