    Forum since 2001 - VBSEO ?

My vBulletin forum is around since 2001 with the default URLs. I am thinking about buying VBSEO for it. 600,000 postings, 12000 members, about 40K pages indexed.

What would be a suggested strategy to install it and what do I need to expect?

My Archive makes about $10.00 a day via Google Adsense. Will that still be available after installing VBSEO or is the archive going away completely?

600 000 postings and only 40k indexed o_O I would recommend getting vbseo in an instant. you dont need to worry about your other links because they will still work, however the new links will soon be ranked much better. Over the next few months you will see a big improvement!

Well, I would not set the sitemap to include individual posts as they are just noise to google and will most likely end up supplemental. How many threads do you have and how many pages do they make up? That's the target you want to look at for pages cached.

When installing vBSEO install the sitemap as well and set it to include all the old urls (but not posts). Then Google will follow these and get 301 redirected to the new urls and update their cache much faster. With a site that big it will take a while so you need to be patient. But in the end it will be better by far having cleaner SERP's and all your pages appearing more unique to Google.

The forum has about 33,000 topics.

How about the normal vbulletin archives? Are they affected when I install VBSEO? The archives make upa good chunk of daily income ....

    turn it off.

the archive is great for standard vB... but once you have vbseo, its a waste.

robots.txt it out, and turn it off.

you'll make more money on your regular pages anyway.

What are the instructions for turning it off and robots.txt it out?

    add:
    Code:
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /archive/
    Disallow: /sitemap/
depending on which version of the sitemap setting you have on (and you may need to add /forums in there as well if you aren't in root) under the setting in vbseocp.php called
    Rewrite Archive Root:

and then turn off the archive in the vB options, search engine friendly archive, set enabled = no.

    Hello Nakz ,

As i explained you within the other thread it has been less then 2 weeks since you installed vBSEO. SEO is an ongoing business and you shall not expect to see incredible results within first couple month. It usually takes around 3-6 month and within this time we strongly suggest you not to change your url structure. Also you shall track your statistics with a statistic tracking program like Google Analytics. site:domain.com query is not accurate anymore.

Well, I bought VBSEO yesterday and installed it. So, hang on for the ride. I get about 2500 - 3000 visitors per day now. We will see how that turns out once the de-indexing / re-indexing is completed.

I am still torn with the archive settings. Like I said my archives make some good money. I looked at your forum, Brian. Is the Adsense implementation approved by Google? I was under the impression that images so close to the ads are against the TOS?

I currently have a 728x90 banner underneath the navigation bar. Maybe I'll try the 300x250 block, but for unregistered guests only?

    yes, google approved it.

the images aren't there for filler or "click here" they are part of my gallery, with a link to it underneath

    Thanks, Brian.

Are you using different options to show ads only to guests or is everyone seeing these ads?

And one more question about the archive - assuming I throw up the large ad block like in your forums - I turn off the archive in the vBulletin options, but what is the recommended archive setting in VBSEO I would have to use?

    Thanks.

Wow. Google is fast. Just checked my site with the site:mydomain.com and I already see all the new URLs and none of the old ones. But - Google is kinda a pain in the rear - I can't even drill down far enough without getting a message that my requests look automated. "Hello, Google - it's just me checking on my own site.!"

    everyone.

guests see a pop up, members don't. thats the only difference in my ad serving.

doesn't matter... its off. whatever it is on now, leave it there (be it /archve/ or /sitemap/ and then put that directive in the robots.txt file to disallow what may have been indexed in the past.

and voila, all archive requests get sent back to the home page.

don't split your page weight. give it all to one source.

your best bet is to track your referrals with an analytics program. the site: command is known to not be accurate.
