Is this duplicate content - VB4 with CMS comments

What is your opinion on this? On the new VB4 with the CMS the article comments are also a forum post. So much of the content is duplicated. Will this be considered duplicate content? If so will VBSEO be able to deal with it properly?

I wouldn't consider it duplicate content as it's a totally different context. Moving forward we might consider providing optimization options, like applying no-follow for links pointing to these threads, etc.

The 'article' forum is by default hidden for guests and spiders. Thus not impact on SEO in the form of dupe content. As Jack Sparrow would say, I like the plan. Simple, Easy to Understand!

I don't think I will keep it hidden. Too many of my forum regulars never venture outside the forum itself. If article comments are not also available via the forums they will never see them and not participate.

It's hidden for guests only. Do you have Guest posting enabled?

Now another point I'm doubtful of is that if you promote a post(in an open forum) to an article, will there be dupe content? i.e. the article & the original forum post.

No but some "regulars" don't log on unless they see something worth talking about. Keeping it hidden from guests will exclude even forum regulars from the conversation.

Is there a way to disable the replies on the article page and simply replace it with a link to the forum that has the replies?

Correct, duplicate content *penalty* is a myth. The goal here is to increase crawling efficiency, optimize external links and maximize link value assignment via application level canonicalization (aka Link Consensus).

Threads are created in a forum not accessible to guests so scratch this off.

Sorry for stirring up an old thread, but many of us are using this as a forum talkback. Most of my readers don't visit my blog, so having threads/discussions on related news is a boost for the blog portion of the site. Having comments appear on both sides doesn't seem optimal for SEO, so I'm wondering if there is a work around.

    Hello,

This has nothing to do with the blog.... this is about the CMS and the CMS comments forum created in vb4.

Sorry, I meant the CMS. I refer to the homepage of my site as my blog ---

It may be possible to make a plugin and or a couple template eidts.

    ie,

replace the #comments link to link to actual thread where the comments are held instead of scrolling down to the bottom of the post.
and 2, edit the template so that comments don't appear on the cms at all
