I'm sure that the "best minds in the world of SEO" may have more advanced analysis techniques that could be skewed using a sitemap. Likewise, for smaller sites, a sitemap really shouldn't provide that much of an advantage, since Googlebot can easily chomp all of those pages in a single feeding.
For forums, or other large sites benefiting from mass user generated content, you want as much content as possible indexed and ranked, as quickly as possible.Then you can benefit from page-by-page optimization, delivering Web traffic from thousands of variations of search queries.
We still recommend that all of our customers run the vBSEO Sitemap Generator.
In fact, our sitemap was designed to address several issues regarding how to best direct the search engines to forum content. That's why we've allowed the Google Sitemap compatible elements of priority/frequency assignment per page type, as well as our advanced Smart Priority/Frequency for Show Thread Pages feature.
How Smart Frequency for Show Thread Pages is Calculated
============================
"Smart Frequency" for Show Thread pages is calculated based on the date of "last post" for each thread:How Smart Priority for Show Thread Pages is Calculated
- Less than 3 days ago => DAILY
- Less than 10 days ago => WEEKLY
- Less than 100 days ago => MONTHLY
- 100+ days ago => YEARLY
============================
"Smart Priority" for Show Thread pages is calculated based on a number of factors including (1) # views, (2) # replies, and (3) rating for each thread.
The priority value is set in consideration of the (1) maximum and (2) average number of (a) views and (b) replies, respectively, for each forum.
The factors are weighted according to the following:The final priority value for each thread is calculated based on the weighted factors, applied to the "Default priority" set for show thread pages.
- # views => 50%
- # replies => 30%
- Rating => 20%
NOTE: Sticky threads are excluded from "Default priority" as well as "Smart Priority calculations". Sticky threads are always assigned a priority of 1.0.
link isn't opening for me.
