    Domain name endings...

    Hey all,

I was thinking today about my .co.uk domain ending.

My site is owned and hosted in the UK so initially it makes sense to have a .co.uk.

But essentially I want my forum to be open to all English speaking countries.

My question is for any US members, if you were searching for a forum, then saw a .co.uk would you investigate or continue until you see a .com or .net etc.

I think having a .co.uk implies my site is UK ONLY...

    What do you think?

From an audience standpoint, there may be some biase towards it as you suggest. However, there may also be a search engine biase as well.

I wouldn't choose the domain name simply because of your geography. I'd make a careful consideration based on your target audience and potential for either incentive/disincentive from a search engine bias.

the .net version of my domain is available.

But this would mean domain age goes back to zero along with my indexed pages and backlinks.

Bugger, wish I had thought of this sooner.

If you're already underway and getting traffic, etc, just stick with it. Sometimes our earlier decisions take away a bit of our flexibility later - but we shouldn't sacrifice the level of success we achieve to backtrack. Highsight is always 20/20.
