Thumbs up From .IT to .COM

    Can VbSeo help us ?

We need to change our forum domain from bodyweb.it to bodyweb.com , the .IT has been on-line since 2000 and it quite known to search engine and sites.
Is it possible to have a kind of redirect keeping the old links (.it) at the same time ?

How is your current traffic? Changing the domain can cause significant disruption.

However - what you will need to do is keep the .it version site online, just so that you can place a custom 301 redirect code within your htaccess. It will then forward all content to the new location on the .com forum.

If you are not yet running vBSEO, this would be a good time to get vBSEO-enabled.

Traffic ? Actually terrific, 13.000 sessions a day and I'd like to preserve them, most of them from searche engine (google).
This is why I'm here, hoping to redirect all my .it into .com with VbSeo.

When Google finds that your domain is updated, there could be a short-term drop in traffic. You have to be prepared for that.

The question I would ask is how important it is for you to update the domain. It you *must* do it, then you will have to take the risk of a temporary drop in traffic, the actual levels of which are not easily predictable.

Note: This is not related to vBSEO. A domain change is always a major update that can have significant impact.

I understand that is not strictly related to vBSEO and I'm thanking you very much for your help, when I'l switch the domain I would rather use vBSEO.

The domain change is not exactly a must, I prefer to switch over .com for prestige and for avoid italian useless bureaucracy and possible problems with crazy italian laws.

I can also keep both on-line with the same data base or I can try for few mounts to change and then switch back.

You really should choose the one that you believe you can keep long term.

If you expect some kind of legal aspects could force you to change it later, then it's probably best that you make the change now.

Changing of domains is not good for SEO at all, so (if it has to be done), do it as early/quickly as possible, and then lock-it-in for long term.

Ok, I bought a license, so I'm officially aboard

I solved all the technicality and it seems to work quite good, both seo and sitemaps, I duplicated a db version that I'm using on the .COM site (the one with vbseo).
I want to see how Google index the .COM site, then I'll shut off the .IT one.

One question, is it possible to use a rewrite rule to make google gets .IT (common php) url's 301'ed to the new .COM (Seo) url's ?
Both domains can be directed on the same directory, same db.

I hope I made myself clear, english is not my native language and I'm trying to do something unusual.

This thread described how to redirect ANY domain that is *not www.maindomain.com* to your main domain: [How to] Setup www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com (www vs. non-www) - With .htaccess 301 redirects (in your case, redirect *.it to *.com domain).

If you don't mind, I'm not bumping this thread, I'm just updating, kind of diary of a test.

I think that vbSeo is a very professional and complete piece of software, it can't obviously do miracles or force Google on indexing more than a way, also Google it's a program, you can follow it as smooth as you can.

Right now, I started with .COM, one indexed page, home page, on the 15th of june.
Every day I fed Google sitemaps with 6 million of urls (nice meal btw )
Yesterday 5 pages indexed, today, 8 pages indexed, let see...

Ok, this evening I switched to .COM.
I'm 301 redirecting as I wish from .IT to .COM (at least i suppose to) but my .htaccess is this :

    Code:
    # Comment the following line (add '#' at the beginning)
    # to disable mod_rewrite functions.
    # Please note: you still need to disable the hack in
    # the vBSEO control panel to stop url rewrites.
    RewriteEngine On

    # Some servers require the Rewritebase directive to be
    # enabled (remove '#' at the beginning to activate)
    # Please note: when enabled, you must include the path
    # to your root vB folder (i.e. RewriteBase /forums/)
    RewriteBase /forums/

     RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.bodyweb\.com
     RewriteRule (.*) http://www.bodyweb.com/forums/$1 [L,R=301]

    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap_).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(admincp/|modcp/|cron)
    RewriteRule ^((archive/)?(.*\.php(/.*)?)?)$ vbseo.php [L,QSA]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !^(admincp|modcp|clientscript|cpstyles|images)/
    RewriteRule ^(.+)$ vbseo.php [L,QSA]
Can you please tell me if everything it's fine ?

just a shot in the dark but are your images in directory:-
    root > images/bodyweb/
    or
    ../forums/images/bodyweb/ ?

may just need to add ../forums/ to your css images.
