To a bot, there is no difference between an open or closed thread. The information does not change on the page.

I understand that a bot won't see the difference.
I was more looking at it from a fresh content point of view.
Thanks.
Each page of a thread is it's own url and will be ranked separately. Page 2 of a 100 post or a 1000 post thread is still the same old stale content.

I think I understand.
So updating an old thread or creating a new thread is the same? Both new content for that page?
Correct. google ranks individul urls seperately. page2.html is a new url. it will rank (or not) differently from the main / or any other pageX.html
