Changing name of forum directory

Tell me if this is a good idea.

Right now, I dont have a really great indexing of the forum portion of my football site. I have added archive links to my sites home page to try to get the bots into the forum as of today.

What I am thinking of is changing the directory from /forum to /nfl, as this is a fantasy football forum.

Good idea? Bad idea?

Well it would require a custom 301 for anything you have indexed right now. If you don't have alot of indexed content for the forum, however, it might not be a bad idea. What about linkbacks? Do you have a lot of external linkbacks to the current location?

/nfl tells me something different than /forum. Plus, there's trade mark issues involved (i don't know how serious though).

I would leave it. and instead, focus on creating better links to the forum pages and topics from the main indexed site.

My thinking was getting better rankings for things NFL related by using "nfl" instead of "forum".

forum is a very seldom searched word for things related to my site, so I really don't see the benefit of having the word in there.

I think I will wait and see if I get better indexed by having my archive links on my sites home page first though.
