Category Link Removal

Ive done quite a bit of searching and can't find a ideal solution for this problem..

My main forum page only has 2 category's and I want to remove the url for the category page as it is basically the same as my home page. Also having the breadcrumb link needs to be removed.

Is there a easy way to do this or do I have do mod my forumhome and breadcrumb to remove this links?

Also I tried to 301 the unwanted category url with htaccess and get this error:
Using: redirect 301 /f3/ Poker Forum Canada - Canadian Poker Sites Online
Causes: pokerforum.ca/f3/ to redirect to this:

pokerforum.ca/?vbseourl=f3/

You would need to custom code your templates to handle this. redirecting will not fix the issue.
