Best redirect options for my setup.

OK, I just bought a forum that has been using a forums subdomain for years. Example - forums.baddomain.org. What I want to do is move it to a much better domain with the number 1 keyword searched for that forum topic - exampleforum.com. I also would like to add vbseo on it after I know the site move didn't hurt the seo of it.

I have no issues with 301 redirect. I can handle that, but what I don't get is the subdomain. I want the site not to have it on the new domain. How can I go about moving the site to the new domain while not hurting pagerank when it has that forums. sub domain? Would it be the same 301 redirect concept, just need to add the sub domain within the redirect?

Anytime you move something, consider page rank is gone and it's seo retired. instead of 'forums' as the subdomin, you'll likely use 'www' as the subdomain (and yes, www is a subdomain). 301s help, but it will still undergo a re-indexing. If you don't want to do this, don't move it.

I would suggest doing it all at once. There is no point in waiting for the move to get indexed just to change all the urls all over again.

Yep I agree. I come to find out that google still has the baddomain.org/forums all indexed rather then forums.baddomain.org so am going to move it to that for now as I am not a fan of sub domains. I will move it over to the new domain in a few weeks and see if I can get lucky and keep a decent amount of page rank/indexing.

Are you talking about getting the site moved to the new domain and getting vbseo setup all at once?

Yes, do it all at once. Changing urls twice just starts it all over again.
