    the server is handling it quite well.

    I don't have multimedia downloads such as videos and such.

    Looking at awstats...

    Well, as long as your server is performing at an acceptable level, and you are not exceeding any bandwidth limitations imposed by your hosting provider, I would recommend simply enjoying your user hits!

    Well...my bill is just slightly under $100... comparing this to the cost of hits would cost...it's worth it.

    I just don't understand how this is good for the long term.

    Which bots are hitting your site? If there are bots that are eating up a lot of your bandwidth but not delivering traffic (like obscure search engines), you could block them with robots.txt and hope they respect the settings.

    the best way to do this is to make a default template (one that guests and bots will see) VERY Light weight.
