Any experience with two server setup?

My server is being slow these days and my forum users complaining, I was thinking of moving mail/database (and setup 2nd DNS) on a new additional server and let the current server only act as webserver.

Any experience on this?

Nicke, first of all, I want to apologize for my bad english...

I have 4 servers dedicated to my site, but I´ve started like you with 1, then 2 and so on...

I have 1 server for mysql, 2 web servers and 1 server for mail/slave database only for searches.

It´s very easy to setup 2 servers, you have to edit your config.php and enter the IP of the second server...that´s all.

Ismael.

We tried the same sort of webserver/database server split when we added a second server, but found we were limited by the network connection between the two servers and it was still running slow. What worked much better was to run web servers on both servers (our servers are behind a load balancer which divides up the web traffic between the two) and set up MySQL replication.

We did have a small problem with vbSEO on the slave server, because it was attempting some talkback/pingback database write to the slave database, which is a no-no. We just turned off those features as we didn't need them and that fixed the problem.
