    Reduce spam on your forum

I have been working on reducing spam on my forums for some time, and I seem to have found a method of virtually eliminating spam from vBulletin forums... I wrote a tutorial on explaining how to do this.

[How To] Reduce spam on your forum

Its been working for me and I have cut spam down to nearly -ZERO- on my forums.

X-Files, you are right about that.

The thankyou spam is my bane and I try hard to minimize these types of posts. I installed the 'Thanks!' button on my forums, but people just ignored it and kept posting away their thank you spam. So I added a big graphic with bold text and an arrow pointing to the thanks! button, and only slight improvement. People just like to post thank you's!

The thanks! button is a great feature though, as it awards rep points to whoever you thank. An incentive to use it and get others to use it.

I can also vouch for the NoSpam! mod for vBulletin. Since adding it, no bots spamming the forums. I used to get hammered by those bots, even with email verification and captcha's on. Now, not a single spam bot has made it through in over a month.

I will search for this hack, it seems to be good anyway, I really need anything to decrease these posts.
Most of google visitors are thanks spammers in my forums I don`t know why.

I agree. We would prefer that articles are posted here firsthand. However, we were negligent in providing detailed posting guidelines.

I do urge those of you wishing to post an article to provide full content here, until such time as we can provide you with better posting guidelines.

    Apologies for the confusion.

But Loco doesn't badmouth vBSEO on other sites, then come here when he wants to promote his site.

i don't badmouth anyone, I strongly disagree with some ppl.

but for joey to even post and article on stopping spam, while he is spamming in this thread, is just making this site look ignorant

like Joe said, the admin at vbfaq say how horrible vbseo and pointless it is, yet you look at his post.. all are advertising his site.

you say I do the same, this is incorrect ! If all my post where links to my site then yes, this would be the same. I make several 100 post that have no purpose then to help the user asking a question. Joeys' post are completely promotional

tbh, I never saw Joey badmouth vbSEO, per se'. I saw him ask for proof that it worked. I saw him say that parts of it were unnecessary. He wasn't the only one.

That said, you could have simply said "It would have been nice if you'd posted part of the article here". But noooooooooooo... you had to take it further. IMO, if you have differences with someone, which just about everyone on the net knows you do by now, the professional way to handle it is privately, not on public threads.

like Joe said, the admin at vbfaq say how horrible vbseo and pointless it is,
I don't see where Joe said that...?

Hi everyone. Please try to keep things civil. Perhaps this matter might be better discussed via PM.

For the time being, I've approved the linked article post.
