Nice tips

So, who's writing the plugin to allow snippets to be emailed?

Great idea, I can't tell you how many times I have read the notification emails I have received from other sites and not visited because the reply wasn't what I was looking for or was off topic. I will be implementing this change ASAP.

This will keep users coming back by sending them e-mails whenever there is a reply to a thread in which they have participated; maybe threads that they have FORGOTTEN they participated in. To do this, go to AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> vBulletin Options -> User Registration Options ->
Default Registration Options and choose Instant email notification from the Automatic Thread Subscription Mode dropdown. If you want to change all CURRENT users to also default to this option, go to AdminCP -> Maintenance -> Execute SQL Query and choose Instant email notifications from the Automatic Query dropdown at the top. (NOTE: You will have to edit your vBulletin config.php to allow your userid to execute queries before using this option.)
I suggest setting it to a daily email and NOT set it to instant, I've been on many sites that have this setting and as soon as I got the first email I turned it off completly! and I think most would also, spaming a new members email is a good fast way to get them to not come back, a daily email to let them know I think is a much better way to keep them updated within a fine line...

my 2cents..

Is there a way to set the IMG tags to not show if you are not registered? Maybe replace it with a Generic Image that says "Register Now to see this Picture" ?

If a user receives an e-mail telling them that one of their subscribed threads has a reply, and it has the complete text of the reply right there in the e-mail, MANY times they won't bother clicking the link to visit your site to read the thread. Removing it from the e-mail forces them to visit your site to read, and they will possibly spend more time browsing. To do this, go to AdminCP -> Languages & Phrases -> Search in Phrases. Once there, enter the word notify into the Search For Text field and choose the Phrase Variable Name Only radio button. The results should show the notify phrase, which contains the body of the subscribed thread e-mails. Click the Edit button on the right, then click the Copy Default Text button near the bottom. This will copy the default contents of the phrase to the textarea at the bottom, and allow you to customize it. Remove the following text from the textarea, and click Save:
I removed the text but my members (and myself) still receive the contents of thread replies. Is there somewhere else this could be picked up from?

I am not sure if someone else covered this, but if the email contains the text "These following posts were made to the thread:" you must also modify the variable digestthread. It contains all the thread posting information also.

I just changed mine to daily emails instead of instant emails, will see how this goes, because i think i agree that any more then a daily email will get turned off totally.

I remember there was a query that I could run that would set everyone to this again, so all those people who turned it off ages ago, it will be turned back on, until they turn it off. anyone know this query?

There's a default query built into vBulletin to do that. Under your Maintenance section.
