Not entirely sure that removing the content from email notifications is a good idea. I'm subscribed to a few vbulletin forums, and some of these forums do not include the content in email messages. This is a little frustrating for me.

I would much prefer knowing what the content was before going to the forum and wasting my time. As webmasters, we need to consider being friendly to our visitors and offering streamlined services rather than making their life more difficult.

On the other side, having the content in the email may encourage users to come to your site and post their comments. If they cannot read the content in the email, they may be likely to just delete the email.

I've been doing it this way for 5 years with no issues, no complaints, and no mention of it at all.

If they were interested in the thread enough to subscribe or reply to it, then they can come back to the site to view updates.

But of course, these are only suggestions based on my experience, and everyone can choose to run their site the way they choose.

Snippet content might be a good idea. With a high volume of notices, with no preview, they might start to tune out. With snippets they can better pick and choose (but have to go the forum to get the full post). With low volume, no snippet, will still probably work very effectively.

Thanks, and I agree with you that snippets would be best.

Cheers.

How do you change it to use a snippet?

It would require a code change (probably do-able using a plugin) to limit how much text of the reply is included.

We currently offer the full-text in emails, and have noticed our members still come to the board after reading the full-text in order to reply to the thread.

That's been my forum's default as well but I regularly get someone who email a reply to me. So I know some people just don't understand

This is a great set of suggestions, thanks for sharing

I have a question...is it possible to remove the actual pm content from the emails that are sent out if a user has requested email notification of a new PM?

Thanks. That's a new feature with vBulletin 3.6. I updated the first post with information on that phrase as well.
