    Lightbulb Get more members using google toolbar

    Get your site included in the google's custom buttons gallery. It will take a few minutes, and can increased traffic to your site.

    Note: Use Internet Explorer when doing this. Also, you will probably want a custom favicon for your site before you do this, as this will be the icon for your button in google's gallery, which everyone will see.

    1. Download the lastest google toolbar for IE Google Toolbar

    2. After you install the toolbar, go to your site and its forums search page and right click in the search box. Go down and click "Generate Custom Search..." Enter in a title and a description you feel is appropriate. Then, click "Add".

    You should now have a custom button in your google toolbar.

    3. Now, on your     google toolbar click "Settings > Options" and hit the "Buttons" tab. Highlight the button you just created and click "Edit" then click "Use the advance editor...".

    4. A new window should now pop-up with a bunch of code. Copy all that code to notepad (or whatever text editor you like). Save the file (ie "mygooglebutton.xml") and ftp it to your site. (Must have the .xml extension)

     5. Test the file you ftped, by visiting its location as a web page (ie http://www.mysite.com/mygooglebutton.xml )

    6. Go to Google Toolbar Help and complete the form giving them the url to the xml file you created.

    7. Google will see if your button meets their editorial guidelines, and if it does they will add it to google's button gallery.

    That's it!

    Hello,

    Has anyone had any luck creating a google toolbar button to search their forums with using these directions?

    I created the button, but when i type a query in my toolbar and click our forum button, the page never loads. Am I doing something wrong? Is the search page protected from outside requests like this? Is the query structure in the following XML incorrect? (note that this is what was generated by the google toolbar "Generate Custom Search ..." feature):
