Why are my Google ranks so awful?

I own a forum; JeepForum.com - Powered by vBulletin, over 200k threads, 2+ million posts plus thousands of gallery images, hundreds of reviews, link pages, etc. etc.

If I type in "jeepforum.com" it only comes up with a mere 30k pages.

I have #1 Google ranks for all my keywords I want. I get most of my traffic from Google/Yahoo which also has #1 ranks for all the keywords I want.

What is the deal? Can anyone take a look at my forum and notice an obvious problem. I don't have vBSEO installed yet but I am debating if I should since I have such good ranks on my keywords.

Now... imagine you were Google for a moment. Regardless of whether or not you decide to penalize the site for having different URLs leading to the same content... you would almost certainly have a very tough time deciding which of them is the most relevant as well as which ones you should avoid recrawling so that you can focus your time on identifying new content.

vBSEO consolidates ALL the above URLs into ONE URL, increasing link consensus towards the CORE RESOURCE (Which btw, is not even indexed in Google atm)

Applying the link consensus principle removes the guesswork as to which URL is required to access a particular page. And when it comes time to calculating linkbacks, the advantage is clear. Focusing all linkbacks on 1 URL rather than spread out upon a hodgepodge of different URLs, will further boost the pages relevancy.

Not installing vBSEO is costing you money

Are my results common with default vB or did something I do cause Google to index the same page as different threads like the results you just displayed?

I worry installing vbSEO will perhaps have good results getting more pages reindexed but I will lose my current rank (#1) on my keywords.

You did nothing wrong. The platform itself is flawed, it displays the same content using different URLs: thread URLs (showthread.php?t=XXX) and post URLs (showthread.php?p=XXX)

So, since you display 15 posts per page, in theory, you are generating 16 URLs with the same content: 1 thread URL (t=XXX) and 15 post URLs (p=XXX).

On top of that, add the nexttothread and previoustothread links and you have a total of 18 possible URLs for each thread page.

Since that thread specifically spans 3 pages, you have a total of 54 URLs for 3 unique resources.

I worry installing vbSEO will perhaps have good results getting more pages re-indexed
Your number of pages indexed should not increase but decrease... substantially. Now, your organic referrals should increase, again... substantially.

but I will lose my current rank (#1) on my keywords.
You will never loose current ranks for keywords due to vBSEO. There might be a transition period where they might not be as strong, but once you've been re-indexed, your SERPs should be much stronger. And of course, you'll gain rankings for keywords you don't even track right now.

I'd make your welcome headers into an image.. there's really no reason not to

It's easy. It works just as well, and you wont have the same words indexed as part of every single pages content..
