sorry for the delay,

indeed i use google analistics, but i have also a public counter and webaliser. Al these say the same.

Now the decrease started the 22th so i checked what this day was done (checked logs):

On the day before i emptied my trash forum (forum were all double posts, test messages, old non working posts etc...). no users can read this forum... Yeah i though; i don't need them, so i remove them to save db space

in my sitemap generatorlogs it says on the 21 th: - 1131, so i think this was the problem. Normally i had disabled the access to googlebots in the setting but i forgot it to add in the past.

So what i have done the last 2 days: i manually imported those post (lucky db backup) and resubmitted the sitemap and gives:

So i think this would fix it but till now nothing :s

anyone a idea?

Many thanks for the winning tip

Best regards,

Karel

Trimming URL's shouldn't have an impact on your traffic.

I think the real metric to look at in this case is WHY is no one coming to your site anymore?
-Has someone else in your niche just became popular?

Track your top referral keywords.

analytics -> traffic sources -> search engines -> click on google in the list -> click your top keyword in position #1 -> graph by month

repeat for each keyword in the top 10.

if you're down, google those terms and see who's out ranking you, and why.

I would imagine that decreasing visitors would be quite normal, as for any site.
Have you made any dramatic changes? Has your server been crashing - do you have a website monitor to monitor the site's uptime?

Have you changed any page's content? Have you deleted any pages or forums?

same problem here, I always had approx 700 users online, after a few days of upgrading, google reduced the traffic more than half. Now I have only approx 350 users online. from alexa 2,500 to 16,000
I checked my google analytics, and found that google stopped all the traffic from certain keywords. Income went off 50% too.

Brian's recommendation is the right approach for trying to determine keyword specific traffic loss. In order words, did you lose significant traffic for a few major keywords?
visitors decreasing - help

This could indicate the emergence of a competitor who has displaced you from those terms.

Now consider your long tail:
Measuring Your Long Tail - vBulletin SEO Forums

How has this changed before and after? If you see that your long tail is now shortening based on the same duration before and after the noted change, that would indicate more prominent side-wide reduction in rankings. Competitors have less ability to impact your entire long tail. Therefore, a long tail reduction is likely to be related specifically either to (a) some change in your site, or (b) a change in the search algorithm that is evaluating all sites (such as Google's crawling, indexing, ranking processes).

Hi all,

thanks for your many answers,

I have evaluated the search results and indeed we have lost many of our keyword. A bit weird thats all done in one single day but ok.

I have seen that a lot of top keywords we had, not were related to the subject of my site but something else (ex. i have a downloadsection and one of them was a link to tomtome home, well that was a top keywords.

None of the posts topics witch those important keyword aren't changed in the last month, so i think there a some nice competitiors came up

Karel

How long is your contract with the advertisers? You need to review the terms & conditions you agreed to before taking action.

I would not submit the re-inclusion request until you completely remove those ads.

Well Karel, I am not a lawyer so you should seek the advise of one before making any decisions related to a legal contract. However, I can provide the following general observations:
  • The contract does not appear to require that nofollow not be applied. If that is the case, you might consider adding them.
  • How was your revenue doing from other sources prior to this agreement? Perhaps you might earn more from keeping these links in place until the contract termination, or perhaps not. This depends on your revenue stats.
  • You might be able to negotiate a partial repayment to the advertiser, based on the period of the contract that has been covered. Perhaps you can explain that since you have apparently been penalized, those links will serve no value to the advertiser. This observation might compel them to agree to determine the contract in exchange for a partial return of the funds exchanged.
Again - since you do have a signed legal contract, you should consult a lawyer before acting.

If the contract ends in May 2009, then you have 1/2 year to go before you can reasonably expect your penalty to be removed. You need to do some ROI calculations to see if you can withstand that impact or not.
