    VBSEO Issue with blocked threads

    Dear all,

I have prevented unregistered user to see the content of the thread they need to log in to read the contents of the threads.

Therefore I was wondering if it affect VBSEO crawling in my site. Do I have to allow unregistered user to read the content of the thread?

Do I have to allow unregistered user to see the content so that VBSEO would work better?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Regards

Spiders cannot index your site if you don't allow guests to view it.

vBSEO will change your url's regardless.

its the search engine bots that you are blocking with those settings, which renderes the software useless if the search engines cant get in.

There are a few basic settings that you need to make sure are correct in vBulletin in order for this to properly do its job.
    • Forum needs to be open to viewing by visitors - otherwise search engines cant index
    • If you want all your pages inexed, set all your forums to show threads "since the beginning", rather than the last month. (I had to change this one myself, thanks to Juan for pointing it out to me)
There are probably other things to check/adjust that I have forgotten.

    Re: show thread since beginning

You can run an SQL Query to set this to all forums:
UPDATE forum SET daysprune = -1

There are many reasons that unregistered users should be allowed to see threads. Easier spidering is just one of them.

You can also get more users, because they can read your content

Actually, from past experiences, when I had Thread Titles shown, and Thread Content hidden, I actually got MORE registered members because they had to join to read.

Still, I don't recommend doing it. Having your site well indexed by search engines far outweighs that.
