Site Report - Gamerz Needs

Please - noone visit the Gamerzneeds.net site right now. It has been hacked, and the hacked homepage is doing some sneaky stuff that could cause problems.

Okay all fixed. plus this time I had my server logs working and I was able to find out where they hacked my site from and who. They were able to hack my site from another site on my server. so all fixed. hopefully the last time this will happen.

Glad to hear you got it straightened out. What was the vulnerability with the other site?

Hey hornstar. I think the reason you got hacked was because of that vbplaza mod. I heard it was vulnerable to hacks.

I used fantastico deluxe through cpanel to install Joomla and it creates it with folders having 777 permission and they were able to upload the scripts because of that. Since looking through the logs more, they also uploaded some scripts to some folders on the site that got hacked as well. The only thing some folders need 777 permission for those programs to work on my site, so I would like to keep them 777 but at the same time I don't want to leave them 777 if it is leaving my site open to getting hacked daily.

nah I have the latest version, it is all good.

Here is the progress to date: I lost heaps since my site was badly hacked and my backups were corrupted so my last working backup was 3 months prior. this happened in Jan. so everything is all good now.

was a large part of your success dependent on vbseo? seems like you did a lot more than just put a plugin on your forum

think of vbseo as a pizza. It is only a slice. you need all the slices to have a whole pizza. The rest of the slices include areas such as good unique content, interesting topics with open ended questions, a good theme that your members feel like they are apart of a community, and lots more. so yes I have done lots to make my forum successful. It is not as simple as buying vbulletin, buying vbseo, making several forums and then sitting back and hoping people will come and post. As an admin you need to be active, friendly and apart of your community so people will want to be apart of it as well.

Another progress update (1 month later) -
I have now hit over 300 000 members on my site (would be lots more but I had to roll back to an old backup a while back and I pruned many members a while back too) but it is nice to be back to 300 000+ members again.
