Pages increases and then decreases?

This is really gay. I am not sure what the hell is going on with Google nowadays. Before my server goes down and all, I had like over 10,500 indexed pages in Google. Last night, it was around 9,600 pages and right now, it says 10,200 pages. Can anyone tell me what on earth is happening with Google? Am I doing something wrong here or what?

Click the link above and you will see what I'm talking about...

site:finalfantasyforums.net - Google Search

I would like to have an explanation here please. I can't get passed beyond 15,000 pages and I'm thinking that Google is hating me from now on and then.

Google has said many times that the "site:domain.com" search is inaccurate and could vary each time you search depending on which data center you hit.

Don't spend your time worrying about those numbers. Track your progress by using something like Google Analytics and watching traffic and search engine referral numbers.

Yeah, just let it go. It will make your head explode

Check it for trends over time, but don't live and die by the number. The important one is referrals from google anyway. As long as that keeps increasing you are on the right page.

Then how am I supposed to know exactly the indexed pages in Google and what not? I think this really means a lot to me. Plus I'm not sure about Analytics because nothing seems to work for me. Yeah, it doesn't track my site so in other words, it's pretty plain empty. :(

I am not sure what is the problem here.

Eek! I have just noticed that the Analytics code was removed on my forum already. Well I never knew that but anyway, where do I place this little code? In the 'FORUMHOME' template? Maybe that's why it ain't working...

vBSEO will add the analytics code for you. Just add the ID number for your site into the vBSEO Control Panel.

You can't ever know, exactly. Complain to Google about it, as they are the only ones that can fix it. As I said, use it for seeing trends.

It may be important to you, but exact numbers are not really important as long as you have an increasing trend. So, time to re-adjust what is important to you to be more in line with what is important in reality

You shouldn't waste another minute on how many exact pages you have. It will fluctuate from day to day with no rhyme or reason...

I have done that already and nothing seems to work for me. Any idea? :(

Alright, thanks for the information I guess. But I still think Google should do something about it.

I see that you have analytics code added twice on your pages:
HTML Code:
<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
_uacct = "UA-1061092-1";
urchinTracker();
</script>

<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
_uacct = "UA-1061092";
urchinTracker();
</script>
one of them is added by vBSEO, another by something else (perhaps template edit). You need only one instance.

And the two analytics IDs are different. Make sure you specify the correct ID also.

Whoops I never knew that vBSEO had the ability of adding the analytics code by itself. And yeah, the other one was a manual edit in the templates. Thanks, it's all fixed now but I see NO results in my analytics page. *blinks*

It will take some time for data to appear. Just make sure the status says that it is receiving data.

And make sure that analytics code is correct. You have it as "UA-1061092", but usually it's in "UA-XXXXXX-X" format.

Keith, my status seems to be fine here. It says it's receiving but I have had my account for almost a week now...

Receiving Data
Conversion Goals (0)

And Oleg, I checked for my account's ID for the analytics and it says "UA-1061092" already so I really don't know about that format you're talking about. I have set the ID in my vBSEO to "UA-1061092" as well. Is that wrong?

But your analytics code was incorrect on your page until just recently, right?

If it's the first site you have in Analytics, that ID may be correct. As you add more, a -1, -2, -3 etc will be added to the end.
