I check from my counter the difference words sending me traffic. If it increased %30-40 suddenly i know it. Because mysite is big it's for me very apperant.
I observed long tail search increases at the same times (like every 2 months) google update it's backlink index. I check link: anysitename .com and i follow 3 more site to be sure. When the backlinks updated i check then alexa ranks to be sure there become an update. When i see both are positive. I check then my counter... Somehow i dont use google analytics. I heard it slower the web site. Sınce then i no used. But it can much easy tell you the picture.
There's no way to monitor the whole site globally.... you have to pick a thread that you want to rank or are ranking for in search engines, and want to see what is working.
In analytics, go to :
traffic sources - keywords -
select landing page for the first metric
and keywords for the second metric.
enter your thread part in the filter at the bottom of the table, ie
/cod-black-ops-500849/
is what i monitored today with the release and all...
I did horrible :( lol but you can see the various long tail keywords of how they found me from the search engines.
