Massive difference is stats between 2 different servers and google analytics?

    Hi,

I'm slightly puzzled about my site stats.

We have just moved to a new server and the old server used webalyser, which was telling me that the site was getting around 130,000 hits per day (page views?) of which on average 1700 were uniques.

Then we moved to the new server which is 1&1 hosted (don't laugh ) and they use their own stats program, which is different again. They show that we are getting 2600 or so uniques per day, but with only around 9-10,000 page views per day.

Google analytics on the other hand is showing 3622 page views of which 795 are absolutely unique.

Which one should I be believing? Is there a generally accepted way to do keep track of these kind of things?

    Thanks

    Dave.

server-stats will NEVER equal client/javascript stats.
    don't expect them to.

server-stats will track EVERYTHING that gets requested to it.
"hit's" can be tracked as 1 page load or 1 file. on anyone page load, you may have 25 'hits' for files/images/etc. it all depends on what the program uses.

js stats won't track bots, xmlrpc requests, etc etc that won't actually render the javascript it self.

    Hi Brian,

Ok I get it now. So I think I should see if I can have webalyser on this server and stick to that then.

    Thanks again

    Dave.
