indexed page numbers decreased

i have about 12.500 indexed pages in google but today i checked and it gives 10.100 indexed pages. why can this be?

Google has no accurate way of telling you how many indexed pages you currently have indexed. They have stated that the site:domain.com search isn't accurate.

It also depends on which of their data centers you hit at any given time. Expect that number to fluctuate.

keep getting backlinks everyday, you will see this no. always gets increased (a max of 9-15 links a day practically)

My google indexing number is lowering everyday. 1 month since I installed vbseo.

Because vBSEO rewrites your URLs, the currently indexed pages will naturally fall out of the index as Google finds the rewritten ones.

The replacement of the rewritten ones will take some time, so please be patient.

Also, since vBSEO makes sure there is only one URL per piece of content, you will have less URLs.

this really doesnt matters, check daniweb as example they keep getting nice number of backlinks regularly which makes there google index substantial.

However, index in google or yahoo does not matters at all !
one should be more concerned about increase or decrease in traffic and potential keywords.

I will go one step further in saying that in most cases, specific keywords don't matter. Nice to have if you are after a keyword that will specifically bring you in a few thousand uniques per day, but I am more concerned with overall SEO and getting all my content elevated in the SERPS for multiple keywords.

rewrite? i installed the vbseo with the same date that i open my board.

Is this for the site in your signature? It only has 299 threads and less than 3,000 posts. Not sure how you run your sitemap or what yo allow search engine spiders to index, but I wouldnt expect more than 1,000 or 1500 pages to be indexed from your forum.

special k, its been stated above. But its a good thing for the number to drop. For example domain.com/ and domain.com/index.php both are the same page with the same content. Vbseo has added a redirect form the /index.php to your /

Now its also done this with all your post, there is more than 1 url to see you post content. Be preparied for this number to be 1/2 of what your previous number was. This is honesty good.. So its getting better.
