This was a little painful to look at today. After seeing my pages indexed climb up to 17,300 from 600 or so on my forum, it has now dropped to 205. I am hoping the climb back up begins now, as up until this point, I only had 5-6 vbseo pages indexed for my forum. This drop to 205 has see a climb in vbseo pages up to 198.

Indexed vBSEO urls are still on the rise with my site. Be sure to use the Sitemap Generator if you haven't already.
Indexed urls and SERP positioning aside, new members and community growth are a greater goal. The way I see it, you want your SEO efforts to come "full circle".
--vBSEO gives you greater spiderability for your content, which leads to more pages indexed in search engines.
--More indexed pages lead to more referrals.
--More referrals lead to more new member signups.
--More new member signups lead to more new members making their first post on your forums.
--More posts lead to more content.
--More content leads to more pages indexed in search engines...
I also like to look at the number of new members in the past week, and the number of members that make their first post in our "Introduce Yourself" forum.
Here's a MySQL query that I use to show me the number of new members from the past 7 days:
And, here's a query to show the number of new threads in my "Introduce Yourself" forum from the past 7 days:Code:SELECT COUNT(*) FROM user WHERE joindate > UNIX_TIMESTAMP(NOW() - INTERVAL 7 DAY);
If you have an "Intro" forum, just substitute its forumid for 38 in the query above. By this method, our numbers at Hotrodders.com for the past 7 days are: 338 new members, and 172 new threads in our "Introduce Yourself" forum.Code:SELECT COUNT(*) FROM thread WHERE forumid = '38' AND dateline > UNIX_TIMESTAMP(NOW() - INTERVAL 7 DAY);
vBSEO is the first step; it drops traffic on your plate. From there, you should be monitoring your metrics carefully, and constantly tweaking and improving your conversions. When you can make it come "full circle", then new traffic will create more new traffic.

My problem up to this point has been getting new members, and the members I get rarely post in the introduction forum.
Take a look at the forum and feel free to offer any suggestions to helping out there.

I've very disheartened.

I'm using the vBSEO Sitemap mod, and Google downloads the site map (which has over 135,000 URLs) twice a day.
What gives?
Google is having issues right now... Have patience.
Google is not being very nice at the moment. It is in the middle of "BigDaddy" and it is struggling under the dataprocessing load. There are several datacenters at Google that have 39,000 pages for the site command. There has also very recently been a bug at Google where sites had pages shown as supplimental only. Check out my Google Cache Checker Tool/thread for some comment.

but I'll be changing url's pretty soon, that's when I'll really start to track this
nice work Brent
p.s. I have always had view profiles up for guest, I just turned this off in thinking that the spiders will get more of the targeted information.

The only pages I have rewritten and viewable by spiders is Member Profiles, Showthread and Archive.
The trick is to rel=nofollow all usernames on forumhome and in the postbit on showthread BUT do not nofollow the Member List link in the navbar and all it to be viewable by guests. This allows the search engines one entry way into the Member list to spider all your profiles.
This is getting worse. Google now only shows 589 pages indexed.Originally Posted by BigBlueBall

Yes, but this weekend it will be three months since I implemented vBSEO. I would expect some improvement over 90 days.
