I personally use the site: command for a better insight.

site:www.hallagulla.com returned 9,950 pages.

But the problem is, many pages are either pulled from supplemental db or are non-important/duplicated content (showpost.php, member profiles, ect...).

Google Hates You!

It does.

You have 100s pages in supplemental db, very few links (use marketleap.com link popularity checker, do NOT rely on G's link: command).

Don't expect G to come to your site and/or rank you well if you don't give it a GOOD reason to do so.

Before crying and scratching your head wondering why vbSEO isn't working for you, take the time to honnestly evaluate your website (in term of quality), review your linking strategy, write articles, give your members something really unique, etc...

It's a painful task, I know (easier said than done). Very few websites are doing this, and that's why relatively few websites succeed and stand out from the Crowd.

Regardless of your forum topic, there are 100s of other "good" websites, why would G boost your site?

It's been said before, but few really understood it (I'm still trying myself):

Make a useful UNIQUE website
Get links (QUALITY links)

Google will then come to your doors.

HTH.
You're right, I used to use site: command before installing vBSEO, just 4-5 weeks back with site: command i got over 100,000 links, and now I finds out it is reduced by 10 times. In addition when evaluated the links it is clearly visible that G is still keeping my old urls i.e., with showpost.php and showthread.php along with very few new vbSEO links. May be I need to wait for some more time before getting correct results.

Quality Links is a big QUESTION for me

Why would G boost your site?
On what grounds G boost other sites ? what is the criteria ? and how vBSEO will help me to boost my site. I am doing all I can on the feedback I am getting from you guys. And I will be there soon

Quality is a relative term, it based on standards we set. But sure taking your advise and will review my linking strategy (which doesn't exists at this moment )

At the end many thanks for taking time out and guiding me to right directs.

Kind Regards,
Basit

i would like to know the logic of how: when my forum has got only 15,000 posts, can have more than 43,800 pages indexed in google? Please resolve my curiousity.
It takes time for Google to update its index, during the transitionnal period, both dynamic and static URLs will appear, thus inflating the final numbers.

It's hard to wait, I know...

Re: how many vBSEO urls do you have indexed?

site:alanwake.net +vbseo

returns 10,600 results.

Which is about right... 7434 posts + 350 threads + 992 members = 8776. Then I have my main page and it's offshoot and the downloads and gallery pages etc..

Though I expect this number to drop down greatly since I have blocked out individual listings of posts (so only threads get archived).. so it should drop down to 3000 or so.

Re: how many vBSEO urls do you have indexed?

O poo hole. I was in a great mood till I just found this thread.

After loads of weeks of yahoo never leaving my site and google popping in every once in awhile, this is what I get:

site:www.thenailgeek.com = 15,100

site:www.thenailgeek.com vbseo = 109!!!!

That chugs!

Re: how many vBSEO urls do you have indexed?

My numbers just tanked. Down to 56,000. Google seems to have lost all of my archive pages, which I do not redirect because my banner ads do well there.

Re: how many vBSEO urls do you have indexed?

I have 3 in google. Got those about 4 days into installing the software, and it hasnt changed since.

yahoo fluctuated from 800 to 3,000, depending on the day, or time of day I check.

MSN holding steady at just over 500 vbseo pages.

You have 300+ now hehe. But seriously, you have an uncommon low Page Rank for this big site. You need to do something about it or google won`t care to go deep enough into your site.

Re: how many vBSEO urls do you have indexed?

I started around 74k without vBSEO and the sitemap plug-in. At one point it went up-to 184k, but not it's back down to 94k. Oddly enough when I do a site search on Google, IE. "site:http://www.mysite.com vbseo" I only show 425 pages or so. Those are basic sitemap pages, forum links, and a few member pages. Not a single thread or post shows up.

You need to understand SEO

What is SEO - three parts to it
  • getting the site mechanics correct = vBSEO
  • getting the onpage optimization correct = your work, plus help from vBSEO
  • getting links
Some facts:
  • Google takes TIME to get all the new links updated into its system
  • Google sometimes reverts back to a previous index, and so all your old url's come back
  • there will be less pages in Google because of vBSEO, not more. You currently have many url's for single pages. vBSEO makes one more powerful url for that one page.
  • you want the max number of SERP no. 1's, not the max number of pages in Google that rank 100th+
  • you HAVE to have good Google PR into your site ie lots of links, or a smaller number of powerful links
  • what is this misinformation about wanting to keep the archive version of the threads??? The archive version only ranks well because it has the best links to it, and until now, there has been so much duplicate content for the threads/different url's! The issue is that the archive is duplicate content with the main threads. So use the sitemap/archive to link to the actual threads, and onpage SEO the main threads better, and you will find the main threads will rank better than the archive pages ever did
  • your sitemap pages need PR as they are the quickest route to the threads - so have a footer link to each main archive page. I have numbered links ie 1, 2, 3, 4 ... with each linking to a main archive page. This gets the max Google PR to the sitemap pages, therefore best PR for the threads.
  • remember the formula for onpage SEO
    • keyphrase to the front of the title
    • keyphrase mentioned 2-3 times in the meta description of 150 characters for Google, then additional characters up to 200 for msn.
    • an <h1> tag which has a paragraph of "firstwords" immediately following
    • those "firstwords" having the same formula of the meta description with the repetition of the keyphrase, but can be a bit looser, can have other unique phrases in there that you are targetting for that page.
    • dont have "welcome guest" type phrases above the <h1> and firstwords - as these detract from what you want Google to know about the page. If you want a guest paragraph, have it below the above firstwords formula
The above are the basics of the work I contract to do with sites. While it is seemingly basic, many find it hard. Reread through the above a few times and apply to your sites. It has amazing results.

What does your sitemap downloads log show? Is it being downloaded each day?

Re: how many vBSEO urls do you have indexed?

66,900 I have.... which is a big drop.... but when you consider the amount of duplicate pages removed it's ok.

Just add up the number of threads you have and the number of members... the figure will likely be 1.5 - 2 times that amount in a real senario.

[edit] did I say threads?? I meant posts.

Re: how many vBSEO urls do you have indexed?

Every day, and sometimes, more than once per day. Often Google doesn't grab every file in one sitting, it returns several hours later and downloads more of them. We dropped anothe 8k today.
