    Do SERPS really mean something???

Visit this site: Planet Xbox 360 Community Forums

    1. A site:forums.planetxbox360.com vbseo returns '0' vBSEO results for this domain at present.
    2. Yet site:forums.planetxbox360.com currently returns 67K results and evidently they are vBSEO'ed pages (click on any cached SERP)

I guess this means... don't use the query [site:yoursite.com vbseo] to determine your current vBSEO'ed indexed page count but rely on organic referrals to measure progress.

    An excellent related read here.

No idea... but this proves that indeed there's something wrong with the site:yoursite.com query (or at least site:yoursite.com keyword_here) and google.

I'd love to have an answer from Google regarding this query specifically. Anyone friend's with Cutts??

Yes, I come to the same conclusion recently. I have 377,000 pages in Google now but "vbseo" only return 10k. I guess they simplified things with the site: command.

E.g. same for links:, just a random part of the backlinks and nowhere the real numbers.

There is alot to this. One of the big factors is the actual pages that google is showing currently.

I have mentioned it in a couple threads here. Google is currently showing many pages that were cached over 1 year ago, close to two years ago. I was recently showing over 60k pages of current content. I then dropped to almost nothing. Now, I am hitting from 50k to 80k and the results are constantly different. The only thing that is constant is a high percentage of the pages that show up havent excisted on my site for over a year.

Best guess sounds like the recent fluctuations are likely due to a big change in the Supplemental index. Matt had said that stuff was supposed to be complete around the end of August.

I don't think this has anything to do with supplements. It has everything to do with google doing what it has been since 2005, screwing up.

They reindexed pages that havent been on my site in over a year. This is by no means, tweaking. It is more like heavy toking.

Have there been any explainations of why this happens?

I can understand having an "old cache" somewhere, maybe on a backup server if there's a problem with one of the current ones, but if it's happening every time that's obviously not the problem.

You've been installed for less than a month, so I would expect your noise content to get cleansed from the SERPs at this stage.

However, we all know that Google can be presumably *erratic* at times.

Have you been tracking your stats closely? It looks like you're still up a few thousand pages from the start, with a homepage PR jump of +1?
