Are you inserting Analytics code through the vBSEO CP on the Stang Mafia site? If so, are those stats looking like they should?

I have more posts than you. does that make me the slower of the two of us? See you on the other forums Mike!

Ok..I see some data coming in now.....it's been about 2 hours and this is more in keeping with a site that has over 20,000 posts in just over 100 days.

My co-owners were not very happy with my decision to kill the homepage, but if anything hinders SEO, it has to go.....thanks for the help Mike and Brian.

I actually had 6 different .coms pointing at the home page on Black Vert Mafia. I now see the mistake I was making.

For clarification, I have only purchased one vBSEO license and it is installed at www.stangmafia.com/forum

I have:

1. Removed all redirects to Black Vert Mafia for all .coms
2. Killed the homepage
3. Reloaded analytics
4. Verified that data is being collected

I am now collecting data and all seems to be running well. I am currently working through your Ultimate guide one step at a time because I have only been doing this for 4 months and a lot of the steps are greek to me.

multiple domains is a huge no-no. Duplicate content penalties are the WORST to work out.

make sure your main .com has the following in it in root:

[How to] Setup www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com (www vs. non-www) - With .htaccess 301 redirects

Nope, it just means I'm too thick to ask intelligent questions. you would be astonished what I've managed to learn by spending time on this one, reading, reading and reading some more.

I'm not sure of how you have the Analytics code inserted on the Stang Mafia site, but know you can insert the code in the vBSEO Control Panel, rather than editing your footer template. Simple, quick and easy. And no more having to add it back in whilst reverting templates after an upgrade. If you've manually added the code to the footer, clear it out of there and add it to the vBSEO CP.

I agree about learning some new stuff on this error. Unfortunately it cost me months of time as my pages should have been high on google searches for "Ford Mustang Enthusiast Forum" by now, but it is what it is.......lesson learned and off to the next one......

Since we got this fixed last night at 6pm PST, I have seen data that is far more reflective of actual activity on Stang Mafia.

Quick update to show how GOOD vBSEO is:

With vBSEO in place, and Brian and Mike's help, we went from non-existent to 20 places behind Mustang Forums.com if one googles 'ford mustang enthusiast".....all in less than 24 hours! MustangForums.com has over 100,000 members and 5 Million posts.

WOW!

We are now page ranked #3 behind mutangforums.com (100K members)and mustangevolution.com (6.5K members)

We are above allfordmustangs.com (55K members, only 3K of which are active at this time).

Regardless, it looks like we are well positioned on Google. Thanks to everyone here atvBSEO. We did this with very few memebers in comparison to the big boards.

Don't let a low member count change how you view SEO. Never worry about what you don't have, just concentrate on being the best with what you do have. Let things like member counts sort themselves.

I'm glad you got everything squared away. Now you'll be smiling when you read that Analytics data each day.

Given the choice, i will take a few loyal members that are constantly online over a large group that does not post.
