Thumbs up AdsenseExperts.com - another Long Term Case Study

    Hello

On 2010/10/28 I started my newest web project using vBulletin 4.0 and vBSEO 3.5.

    The Idea behind AdSenseExperts.com

AdSenseExperts.com was founded to give advanced Adsense Publishers a platform to
talk about new Ideas and strategies to increase revenue. In nearly all webmaster forums
that are dedicated to Google AdSense you will find an endless number of threads with
Newbie questions. To find more advanced information on Adsense however requires you
to read hundrets of those Newbie threads. AdSenseExperts.com tries to change that.
We are trying to create a Network of advanced and successful AdSense Publishers.
We also offer a safe haven for very advanced and successful Publishers that is closed for the public.

I will start a new long term Case Study like I did for my German medical forum.
For those of you who missed it: Patientenfragen.net - vBSEO Case Study

This Thread is a long term CASE STUDY.
    Last update: 2011/06/04

Important events that may have had impact on my traffic:

    • 2010/10: Registering the Domain AdSenseExperts.com (as well as several others), Installation of vBulletin 4.0.8 and vBSEO 3.5.2, as well as other Modifications and Template Edits which I use on all my forums (just a Tip: use the Template modification system by Andreas aka KirbyDE). Going Live with the Forum on 2010/10/28
    • 2010/11: Official request to Google AdSense if it is ok with them to use their trademark AdSense in my domain name (no answer yet though)
    • 2011/01: Started my mini-site offering AdSense Optimization Services
    • 2011/02: To accomplish the goal of being a more exclusive Forum for more advanced AdSense Publishers we introduced a Questionnaire that has to be answered correctly in order to be able to register. I also started to publish all new Threads on Twitter and started using Twitter to market AdSenseExperts.com under the Twitter Account @AdSenseExperts
    • 2011/05: Fuzzy SEO Plugin installed (Search Keyword display)

    Follow us on @AdSenseExperts

Traffic stats (search engines, direct and referrer traffic)

    Traffic Statistics logarithmic scale:

So if you like statistics subscribe to this thread and keep up to date with
    my development of this project.

    Feedback is of course welcome.

    Kind regards

Ok here is the first update of my long term case study.

To make it even more interesting I added the statistics about
"direct traffic" and "referrer traffic" to the traffic statistics.

    Enjoy

And just as a side note:

I released a new versions of my AdSense Integrations for first and last post after adapting
a small CSS "trick" suggested by one member of AdSenseExperts.com

Until 3 weeks ago the text of the first post started on the left side of the AD like this:

    TextTextTextText Ad Ad Ad
    TextTextTextText Ad Ad Ad
    TextTextTextText Ad Ad Ad
    TextTextTextText Ad Ad Ad
    TextTextTextTextTextTextT
    TextTextTextTextTextTextT

I then changed that by utilizing a neat little CSS "trick" to make the text flow around the Ad like this:

    TextTextTextTextTextTextT
    TextTextTextTextTextTextT
    TextTextTextText Ad Ad Ad
    TextTextTextText Ad Ad Ad
    TextTextTextText Ad Ad Ad
    TextTextTextText Ad Ad Ad
    TextTextTextTextTextTextT
    TextTextTextTextTextTextT

This small change increased my CTR over 300% and my eCPM over 350% for this Ad Unit
(stats comparison of a 12 days time period before and after the change)

That is what AdSenseExperts.com is all about.

    Go check them out:
AdSense inside the first post v1.1 - AdSenseExperts.com Exclusive
AdSense inside the last post v1.1 - AdSenseExperts.com Exclusive

And if you are using Version 1.0 I strongly suggest you UPGRADE!

Today I added another statistical graph which shows the Number
of Total Posts in correlation to the total number of registered Members.

I think this stats could be very interesting to compare to the keyword long tail.

wouldn't they consider it as misleading the visitor into clicking ads, i know it's said that the ad is mentioned there but google is always very strict.

The next update for my long term case study.

Google traffic increases month by month, other SEs don't.
I first thought when watching this on my German forums
that it has something to do with Bing and Yahoo putting more
focus on English websites. However it just seems that they
are by no way a match for the big G

    I'll keep you posted.

I just published the newest update to my case study.

Some significant changes were made on AdSenseExperts.com

I spend 2 month thinking about how to "protect" AdSenseExperts.com from becoming just another AdSense Forum with lots of beginners questions.
This is why I introduced an AdSense Test that anyone who wants to register needs to pass.
The questions should be answerable for anyone who worked with AdSense before.

I also started to use Twitter so follow us on to keep up to date with the latest optimization tips for Google AdSense

Feedback is, like always, very welcome

I failed your entrance test and gave up on joining last week. I got annoyed that it didn't tell me what one i got wrong and gave up on joining. And I've been working with adsense since it was in beta. Might be something you want to look at.

It is fine line between making the test to easy so that anyone can pass and to hard so that most can't. Maybe I need to find a better balance there.

There will be an update to the questionnaire mod which will show different questions in a random order.
I will implement your suggestion and show the wrong questions in the failed message.

For now I think I made it a little easier by allowing one mistake.

If you still want to join and fail send me your answers and I tell you where you got the answer wrong.

ps: I think most people fail on the "what does conversion mean" question. That is why I explained it in our FAQ but most people don't bother to check them.

    but that one is easy.

    eCPM = total earnings / (page impressions/1000) = (total earnings x 1000) / page impressions

    that's basic math
