Smile Possible Bug: MySQL Causing Load to Jump Very High

    Hi all

About a week ago my forums starting crashing, seemingly at random. Load would sky rocket straight to 100+(!) and the entire server would fail. MySQL was the cause, and I knew it was something to do with the forums. Renaming my forum directory from forums/ to forums23423/ or something instantly cured the problem.

So I have been trying to fix it since, and only just now thought to check up here.

I was running VBSEO 2.0, and these were the errors (sent by the forums):

    MySQL Error :
    Error Number :
    Date : Tuesday, November 8th 2005 @ 11:29:37 PM
    Script : http://forums.xxxxxx.com/forumdisplay.php?f=&page=1
    Referrer : http://forums.xxxxxxxx.com/other-nex...ulletin_md5.js
    IP Address : 72.14.194.18
    Username :
    Classname : vb_database
The corresponding server error log entry was:

PHP Warning: mysql_close(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/planetx/public_html/forums/includes/functions_vbseo.php on line 2513
I was excited when I found there is a new version of VBSEO out, and I just upgraded to it (2.1.1). I have done a search, and can't find any similar threads with the above error in it though. So is the issue above fixed with this new version of VBSEO 2.1.1 ? If not, then consider this a bug report. If it is fixed, then I am a very happy man

    Regards, Matt.

    Hi Matt,

it looks like number of simultanious mysql connections has been exceeded at some point for your forums.

Please try to increase it in MySQL config (my.cnf), upgrade vBSEO and let us know if that happens again.

    Hi there

Thanks for your prompt reply. Initially we increased the connections to no avail. I also note that it could happen when the server was quiet, or when it was busy, i.e. it was totally random.

I have upgraded VBSEO anyway, and fingers crossed it is fixed. I am just surprised that no one else reported it though.

    Cheers, Matt.

Edit: Also, I remember that when we did run out of MySQL connections, the VB error email would specifically state it. Also, from the traffic we have, I wouldnt expect a lack of available MySQL connections to cause load to get so high.
