Permalink reliant on user settings

The permalink 'links' are not entirely accurate as they rely on every user having the same setting for "posts per page".

IE - if you have 30 posts per page and permalink item 30, the link will be: pageone#ID, whereas if the default is 25, the actually permalink should be pagetwo#ID..

I have the same problem now with a large multipage thread where a user linking to a post has a different multipage setting than the majority of the users. They are redirected to the wrong post on the wrong page.

Any help or bugfix would be much appreciated (except for changing everyone's page setting to the same option, which isn't an option)

This same issue is present with default vBulletin, right?

I mean, doesn't the same issue occur with vBulletin, without vBSEO installed?

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing, but if VBSEO is not installed, there is no permalink option

What Keith means is that if you post default vBulletin link somewhere:
Code:
showthread.php?t=XX&page=Y
it won't work for others either, if you have different page size.

Oh yes

I appreciate that, but surely as this is a "special feature", it should be modified so that it works as advertised, even if this isn't how the original vB version works?

Is this going to be looked at?

I want to replace the showpost links with permalinks complletely, but it will muck up if someone has got different page lengths.... maybe a "jump page" which takes a post id or something and then redirects to the correct page/post?

* bump

Permalinks are really pointless unless this is fixed...

I'm having a similar problem also. When permalinks are dependent on user settings they are not much use.

I noticed the problem when I discovered that permalinks on posts below the "Replies below current depth" level in threaded mode did not work. Hence, not only user settings of number of posts to display affects this, but also if someone is using threaded mode instead of linear mode.

That sounds great. I am in the process of switching to vBulletin and I am holding off launching my new forum software until the new vBSEO version is released. Will the next version be 3.3.0, which has this fixed? I noticed this problem on a test forum I am running. permalinks that only work with some user settings can be very confusing.
