    memberlist possible bug

Well I have a feeling this is because of the rewrite being done on the memberlist.

    This is quite weird.

    The user: A_1

Has had 945 visits to their profile.

Now that user has made 0 posts, has not been active, yet they are quite the popular user lol.

Now check out my site: Gamerz Needs - For All Your Gaming Needs! - View Profile: a8761207

This page has had 10,522 visits (Wow lol)

This user is actually the most popular user on my site lol. However once again, this user has made 0 posts, and has not been active since 2005.

Now notice that both users have the letter a in their name, so I did some looking around and found that if you go to A_1 It will actually take you to this user and if you go to Gamerz Needs - For All Your Gaming Needs! - View Profile: a8761207 it will take you to my users page.

I have a feeling because of this it is being found by many search engines or something along those lines.

Now the only problem I see here is that it is not really giving a true indication of who the most popular user on the site is lol, and since I show those stats on my site it would be nice to have it reflect correctly.

Just a trivial bug (if it even is a bug) but maybe something which can be fixed? I still find it funny that this user is the most popular on my site lol.

neither of those members are the cause.... they are the landing of other errors.

If you allow more than a-z 0-9 and spaces in the member name, you 100% need to have the ID in the url.

I quick view of your member list indicates this problem.

    Take member
    .....

    it ends up on
    138263657's Profile

which obviously isn't the correct place.

Add the ID to your member URL's.

I am also interested in this. How can I add the userid to the URL that shows the member's profile ?

This should be enabled by default in VBSEO. I mean, most webmasters don't limit the characters that are used in user names and in this case it is guaranteed that they will face some problems in the future (the same kind of problems as hornstar6969 is experiencing).

Please look for url rewrite option within vBSEO Cp. You'll see Advanced Settings ( +/- ) . Click + to expand settings.

There are different rewrite options. You can choose any of them after installation.

I personally want mine to stay the way it is tho, members/username is the way I like it.

Now I only allow letters and numbers for my usernames to sign up. So if there are old usernames with other characters then I am happy to change those.

What exactly is causing the problem on my site with my usernames?

The example I posted about my site was only using a letter and numbers in there username.

You would need to re-name old accounts with special characters in them. And then, they can't log in... so you gotta tell them their new name.

The problem is the special characters.

Again, the links you posted are not the PROBLEM, but are the LANDING page OF the other problem usernames.

Okay all usernames that had any other characters in it from the past have now been removed or changed and notified.

Here is part of my username ban list:
    ' ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) + | - = \ { [ ] } : ; ' " < , > ? / ~ ` ' www .com . suck ™ † ƒ Ë £ Ø ® É ‡ ¥ .. ☆ § CEF ¼

    am I missing any?

Lastly: Here is my memberlist: Gamerz Needs - For All Your Gaming Needs! - Members List

Do you see any usernames that are now illegal? Because Gamerz Needs - For All Your Gaming Needs! - View Profile: a8761207 still links to Gamerz Needs - For All Your Gaming Needs! - View Profile: a8761207

it should not redirect to the first username with the letter a in it, it should come up with username not found. I still think this is a design flaw or a bug.

I wish there was a mod to strip characters from existing usernames and then email the users with the updated username... That would be nice
