External Service Pinging

When a thread is posted, vbseo pings the list of external services set in 'Update Services' under 'Outgoing LinkBacks'. Well, when one of those services is down, it causes an error while when posting the thread.

This was a huge headache for our forum, as we could not figure it out. After 2 days of troubleshooting and finger pointing, it was discovered as a flaw with vbSEO. Maybe you could look into fixing this?

Does pinging that many services help at all compared to the default ones?

Does it slow down posting that much?

Not sure, no one every complained. I am looking for a service that pings everything. Do you know of one?

If an external service is down vBSEO can't do anything about that. You shall manually check each site and found which one is down and remove that from update services list. I also advise you to lower the number of services you ping because each server will use more server resource.

my god! lol it must take 20 min to make a new post on your forum.


I would HIGHLY suggest running a max of 3-5 RPC service pings.

i personally run google, yahoo, and technorati
