3.3.2 patch files broke inbound links from other sites

[EDIT: Problem appears resolved - my error, not vBSEO's]

I installed the patch today and discovered that it broke external inbound links (at least three that I saw).

The failure was not graceful: "Page not found" was the only text on the resulting blank page, and no <title> text at all.

I immediately uninstalled the patch by overwriting the files from the patch package with those from a recent backed up copy of the forum. That appears to have returned things to normal.

However I'm not sure how to proceed from here to perform the upgrade and also preserve outside links.

    running vB version 3.8.4

    Hi Darin,

I'm not seeing this account assigned to any vBSEO licenses - could you please PM me your forum information so I can assign the license to your account?

3.3.2 is NOT a patch. It is a complete upgrade to a new version (which includes the bug fix)
Patch files were released for OLDER versions for people who did not wish to upgrade.

You are on 3.2 RC5 according to your board footer.

I highly suggest you do the full upgrade to at LEAST 3.2 final, but recommend the full upgrade to 3.3.2. RC's are NOT supported and the patch for 3.2 final may have an issue with an RC.

All versions in the download area contain the patch now.

    ACE: information PM'd.

    Brian: thanks for the reply.

Initially I didn't grasp why you emphasized the "patch" vs. "upgrade" terminology.

I have since realized that they have slightly different installation procedures. I've just reapplied the 3.3.2 upgrade per the "upgrade" procedure, and the inbound links appear preserved.

Unless any other odd results appear, probably safe to chalk this one up to "operator error" on my part.

No problem It was a bit confusing for several people. Due the the nature of the issue, the release was a bit rushed and we perhaps didn't separate the 2 releases (upgrade vs patches) enough in the announcements.

Found one problem since the proper upgrade: admin email notifications of new users now contains a broken URL that used to work prior to the upgrade.

I've turned off vBSEO rewriting of URLs in email.

EG: pre-upgrade URL used to be:

    Code:
    http://ecomodder.com/forum/member-lewp91.html
Post-upgrade URL that doesn't work (redirects to forum index):

    Code:
    http://ecomodder.com/forum/members/member-lewp91.html
    Note addition of "members/".

Hi Ace - I looked in the vBSEO control panel and couldn't find the answer. Could you point me in the right direction please?

(Apologies for my noobness: I inherited the task of looking after vBSEO from the person who originally installed/configured it.)

Look for the URL Rewrites section, and click the little + sign to fold it out.

Then search for "member". It will come up eventually.

Found it. It's set to ...

    Code:
    member-[user_name].html
Which, because that's the "correct" rewrite, makes me think the other rewrite I was seeing was related to my earlier botched "upgrade".

EDIT: yes it was. Was able to figure that out based on the timestamps of the notifications.

Thanks for pointing me to that info; gave me the clue I needed to figure it out. It's working properly now.
