The like system is a completely different system from reputation. It doesn't calculate points, nor take away points. I don't see a logical connection to them.
Please be more specific about random appearances. is it in the same thread, or different threads?

This surprises me Brian, as the logic of it is so simple.
If someones post get "likes" it means his posts are good, as such it could/should add points to his reputation.
Seems pretty logical...
If you're not aware or missed the past announcements of the system, the likes system is the first step in the sitemap evolution. In future versions of vbseo/sitemap, the likes system will be used to calculate priority by humans instead of arbitrary figures that don't mean anything. Thus, better targeting via weight values will be submitted to the search engines.
In other words,
Likes -> thread
Rep -> user
the end result between the two items do not correlate.

user posts -> reader likes -> thread gains importance -> user good! user rep!
No reason to keep the likes as simplified as a cool sitemap add-on.
We have no plans to integrate like system with vBulletin reputation system.

I too would love to see rep points added. The Post Thank You Hack (with rep points) is the 2nd most installed modification on vb.org, so clearly there is a huge demand.
Perhaps a few more votes on this vBSEO Feature Request will help?
A click on "Like" improves user's reputation for 1 point
I don't see why not add few points to user rep if people like his post.
People are lazy, no one who clicked 'like' would go and add reputation for same post as well, it is double work for user.
Disagree. Reputation system has links to post. Yes, points goes to user, but user can see post for which they are given.In other words,
Likes -> thread
Rep -> user
the end result between the two items do not correlate.
Well this is currently the 3rd most popular vbseo feature request.
Unfortunately it doesn't appear likely that vbseo will do this anytime soon, so I'm looking to hire a programmer: [Paid Request] Scheduled Task to issue Reputations for vBSEO Likes
Anyone interested?
P.S. I'm assuming a scheduled task will be more resilient to future vbseo updates than plugin that intercepts the 'Like' hook and provides instant reps?
We are not allowing paid job requests on vBSEO.com , you need to post your inquiry within another forum.

Sorry about that...
Is it permissible to ask opinions about the scheduled task vs plugin issue? I am assuming a plugin would run the risk of interfering with vbseo and/or be rendered inoperable when future vbseo updates are released. Whereas a scheduled task that simply reads the vbseo_likes db table is less likely to interfere and more likely to survive vbseo updates. Is that a fair assumption?
