What is the Search Long Tail? - vBulletin SEO Forums
It is done to help optimize *every* page on its *own* content. This is to encourage better long tail optimization.
You do NOT want to optimize every page on your forum for your "forum title", especially since it's really only your homepage that you want to rank for this term.
By letting each page focus on its own true content, you stand in a great position to get more traffic from the search engines, as a part of the long tail of search effect.
Just had my vbSEO installed and feeling my way around. I've removed $vboptions[bbtitle] from both FORUMDISPLAY and SHOWTHREAD templates, but forum titles are still displaying in all thread URL's.
I do NOT have RR setup ... is this why?

Never mind ... turns out you can control that through the vbSEO control panel as well.

Glad you got it working![]()
The Forum Hosting - Forum Hosting from the Forum Experts
Interesting thank you for sharing.
Anyone else have any info to report on this? Trying to decide if it is worth doing..
thanks!
I feel it better to remove your forum name and add a word instead that would help you rank for more relevant searches.
For example my forum is about Cancun in Mexico, and a typical question might be 'where are the best restaurants'? Users are not going to suffix their thread title with 'in Cancun' because everyone knows that is what the forum is about -it's a given that they are talking about Cancun and not New York or London. The title shown in the search engines, however, might come out like 'Where best restaurants'.
Now I'm never going to rank highly for 'best restaurants' and I don't want to. The traffic would be next to useless since it wouldn't be targeted to the locality being discussed. However, if I added the word 'Cancun' to the end of every thread title then the title might show as 'Where best restaurants Cancun' helping me rank both for more relevant terms and ones with less competition.
Orther examples:
'what's the weather like in January'
'how far is my hotel from the airport'
etc etc
Any thoughts on this?
This will only work if EVERYTHING in your thread is about cancun. So, if you have a general chat, or an intro forum, etc, those should not be suffixed with it.

Then it should help in my particular case.
I do have a couple of off topic forums and a temporary support forum following my recent changeover from phpbb, but I have these blocked by robots.txt file as I see little point in having such threads listed in the search engines.
You can also use template conditionals to skip those forums adding that text element as well.

Is this applicable for vBulletin 4.1.8
I could not find any instances of $vboptions[bbtitle] in those templates
vb4 already does this. this is a vb3 tutorial.
